Know Your Bone-Scan Code Pairs

Radiology Coding Alert

If your practice has trouble following which bone scan codes you can report concurrently, the following chart will help you determine when you should -- and shouldn't -- report more than one bone scan on the same date. These services represent the most common code pairings. Remember that anytime you append modifier 59 (Distinct procedural service) to a code pairing, your documentation must show that you performed the services during separate sessions and why both services were medically necessary.
